Çakmak has advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Çakmak is pleased to announce that it has advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as local Turkish counsel on the USD 50 million syndicated loan to Akbank for on-lending to support women-led businesses in Turkey, as part of the EBRD’s Women in Business programme. Çakmak has advised the syndicate of lenders in relation to the renewal of Akbank’s sustainability focused syndicated loan.

19 March 2022 – Çakmak is pleased to announce that it has advised the syndicate of lenders, consisting of 32 banks from 15 countries, as local Turkish counsel, with the renewal of Akbank’s sustainability linked syndicated term loan facility with a value over USD 700 million.

The transaction included the introduction of two new ESG KPIs and the use of SOFR as the interest benchmark.

28 December 2021 –  Çakmak is pleased to announce that it has acted as local legal counsel to Plaskolite, North America’s largest manufacturer of acrylic sheet and thermoplastic solutions, in relation to the transfer of its shares in PIA Akrilik to Sirius Plastik. PIA Akrilik is a leading Turkish manufacturer of cast acrylic sheets in Turkey.

27 December 2021 – Çakmak has advised Turcas Petrol on the sale of its shares in Turcas Kuyucak Jeotermal, to Albioma SA, a listed French energy company.

Çakmak has advised Entek Elektrik in relation to the acquisition of Süloğlu wind power plant from STEAG GmbH.

16 March 2021 – Çakmak is pleased to announce that it has advised Entek Elektrik, a subsidiary of Koç Holding engaged in the energy sector, on its acquisition of Süloğlu wind power plant with an installed capacity of 60 MW, and its O&M services company, from STEAG GmbH. The Çakmak team was led by partner Zeynep Çakmak. The core transaction team included partner Devrim Ergun and associate Nazlı Başak Ayık.

This is another landmark transaction promoting the current uprising trend in the Turkish renewable energy field, and the first wind power plant of Entek Elektrik as an addition to its well-established portfolio of electricity generation facilities.

This is one of the landmark deals in the energy sector in years 2020 and 2021, involving ENGIE’s divestment of İzgaz, which is the natural gas distribution company for İzmit Province; Baymina which is the owner and operator of a CCGT with an installed capacity of 770 MW in Ankara; and EPG which is a predominant player in the market which offers solutions and O&M services to different customer segments in the energy sector.
